I just love it when sports guys try to segue into social commentary.  In this case we've got Kevin Hench attacking Clinton Portis for defending Michael Vick for possibly having fighting dogs.

Now, granted, dog fighting is a felony where Vick was keeping these dogs, so Hench is on stable ground, but even apart from invoking Karl Rove (almost as good as a Hitler reference for discrediting the speaker), I have to laugh at the entire context of this.  Hench seems dimly aware of the huge problem with his posturing when he mentions football injuries towards the end of his screed, but he's too excited about being a dog owner, and being so compassionate himself, to notice...

See, Clinton Portis is a professional football player.  He goes out on Sundays and beats the ever living shit out of himself for the enjoyment of people like Kevin Hench.  People who make a living observing, pontificating, basically surviving off the pain and triumph of people like Clinton Portis.  An article I read about Vick's dogs described them as being “scarred but well cared for.”  Sounds a lot like Clinton Portis.  Or Mike Vick.  Or pretty much anybody in the NFL.

But Kevin Hench can't see that irony.  Kevin thinks he's deep for seeing how dogs are like us.  How they have feelings like us, feel pain like us.  Has it ever occurred to you that they love to compete and to win just like us?  Has it ever occurred to you that the same emotions that drive dogs to fight are the same ones that drive Clinton Portis to destroy his body for your amusement?  When a fighting dog is vicious, fights, wins, he's rewarded and praised.  Just like you reward Clinton Portis, and have for his whole life.  You breed aggression, violence, a love of victory into these guys...  Then you get all whiney when they act on it.

You're a shallow, unreflective little dipshit, Kevin.  Stop calling Clinton Portis names and think about yourself.  You own a dog.  Good for you.  I own two.  Does that make me twice as enlightened as you?
