So, this shooter kid in Virginia managed to shoot two people, wander off, put together a multimedia presentation, mail it to NBC, and then go shoot 30 more people.
Where are the 9-11 conspiracy jackasses now? Where's Rosie O'Donnell and her expert knowledge of metallurgy and melting points? Isn't it pretty hard to believe this kid wandered around, unapposed, for two hours? Where are the allegations that this is an inside job by the Clintons in an attempt to prove Bill right on the assault weapons ban, and to take away our 2nd Amendment rights, in preparation for their takeover?
But, seriously, it's obvious that the gun control idiots are going to screech loudly about this thing, like guns are the problem. Look... Let's not pretend that this kid didn't give every fucking indication in the book, and then invent some of his own, that he was out of his goddamn mind. He's getting restraining orders for stalking, writing morbid essays and plays, freaking out his teachers, and resisting attempts by staff to get him to go get his broken little brain fixed. You can ban guns all you want. Timothy McVeigh didn't need any guns to kill 168 people and injure 800. What we really need is for people to do their fucking jobs, and not be incompetent buffoons.
This kid was sending signs for months if not years. This kid shot two people, then wandered around campus for 2+ hours, while classes remained in session, before resuming his killing spree. Forget the fact that there's a 2nd Amendment in the Bill of Rights. If we're going to be this fucking dense, people are going to die.
Guns are not the problem. The problem is a society that tells everyone that they're precious and special, and then can't be bothered to help them understand why reality doesn't bear that out. This kid's manifesto is a garbled, confused attempt at lashing out at all the things colleges teach us to hate (wealth, Bush, Christians, etc.), almost like he was trying to fit in, even as he gave up on fitting in. Sorry, Cho. You're not special. You're a below average intellect with no interpersonal skills and a mouth so unfortunate looking they should have let you park in handicapped spots. But he was told that he's special, and when everyone treats him like the boring schmuck he is, he feels like they're breaking the promise they made him.
We don't have school shootings because we're a “violent culture“ or a “gun culture.“ We have school shootings because were narcissistic. We teach everyone that they're so fucking important that they end up thinking that getting picked last in kickball really is reason to take 32 people with you.
Oh well, Cho. At least you're in hell now, getting raped by the devil.
Now, as long as we're discussing it, I'm all for sensible gun control laws. I certainly don't see why non-Americans, like this kid, should be able to purchase firearms. They're not Americans, they don't get all the same rights we do.
I also don't see why people shouldn't have to take classes at least as rigorous as drivers ed before they can own a firearm. We should at least try to drill safety, and respect into every firearm owner's head before they may own a firearm. If you're too goddamn retarded to hit a 10“x10“ paper target a couple times with a .22, then, honestly, you don't have any rights, much less the right to bear arms.
That said, I have absolutely no faith in either side of the debate to do the right thing here. Naturally, given my outlook on life, I am much more sympathetic with those that support the 2nd Amendment, but all this talk about arming professors, and “they're going to take our guns away...” It's a bit ridiculous. Letting a teacher carry a weapon seems appropriate to me, but we definitely don't need to force anybody to be armed if they don't wish to be. And, while many people certainly do want to take our guns away, it's far from a popular movement to truly disarm us.
Of course, for every criticism of the 2nd Amendment crowd, there's a thousand for the gun control idiots. These people are consistenly ignorant, vindictive and petty. The laws they write are entirely unproductive in enhancing safety, and are almost universally written to harass and punish gun owners. Again, never mind the fact that these people ignore a Constitutionally guaranteed right in their clamor to enact gun control laws... They are too arrogant and disinterested to actually learn enough about gun ownership, about gun owners, and about the guns themselves, to make effective laws. Also, for all their claims of just wanting sensible laws, I think the great majority of gun control advocates are indeed looking for a total ban and are just trying to get there by increments.
Yet another debate that could be settled very simply if anybody of any actual honesty, intellect or knowledge was involved.
In closing, I'll say only this: A whole college full of students, counsellors, faculty and Police failed to stop this kid from doing what he did. I'm fairly certain that just one person, armed with a concealed weapon and trained in its use, couldn't have done any less.
