So, Initiative 100, which legalizes the possession of under an ounce of weed, passed 54% to 46% in Denver.  Interesting.  I guess it's legal to smoke weed in Denver, huh?  No.

The change will not affect prosecutions, according to Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrisey.

"The change in Denver’s city ordinance does not change Colorado state law," said Morrissey. "It is still illegal to possess less than an ounce of marijuana anywhere in the state, and that includes Denver."

Why, then, do we have ballot initiatives on it, if the vote means nothing?

I'm also reminded of the fact that a couple years back, it was illegal to carry a concealed firearm in Denver (or have a handgun, or whatever, I forget the exact faggy detail).  In Colorado, if you had the proper permits and paperwork you could.  But not in Denver.

So, when it comes to shitting on the 2nd Amendment, Denver is its own entity and can ignore Colorado law.  But, when it comes to legalizing pot, Denver is fully subject to Colorado law, voters' wishes be damned.

That's neat.

# re: Denver Legalizes Pot, But Doesn't... 2/23/2006 10:23 AM a smarter guy says: from 24.8.144.129
You must not understand what this whole thing is about. Denver doesn't have any 'secondary laws,' which mean that you cannot get in more trouble in Denver than you can somewhere else in the state. It's this kind of lack of understanding that have actually been holding up the legalization of our favorite herb.

You do not realize that your comparison of a gun law and this issue is not good. In fact, you actually look stupid because of it. Denver can inact laws (just the same as any other city) that make a state law stricter, such is the case with the guns. With your whole understanding of the weed issue, they didn't "legalize the possession of under an ounce of weed;" they decided to not have any laws stricter than the state law.

Here's a great idea:
1) Pack a bowl
2) Fire it up
3) Smoke it till it's cashed
4) Repeat step one
<i>somewhere in the middle of these four steps, re-read what I have taught you. you may have to do this a few times, but hopefully, you will be really high and just a bit more educated on an issue you obviously feel quite strongly about.
