So, Initiative 100, which legalizes the possession of under an ounce of weed, passed 54% to 46% in Denver. Interesting. I guess it's legal to smoke weed in Denver, huh? No.
The change will not affect prosecutions, according to Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrisey.
"The change in Denver’s city ordinance does not change Colorado state law," said Morrissey. "It is still illegal to possess less than an ounce of marijuana anywhere in the state, and that includes Denver."
Why, then, do we have ballot initiatives on it, if the vote means nothing?
I'm also reminded of the fact that a couple years back, it was illegal to carry a concealed firearm in Denver (or have a handgun, or whatever, I forget the exact faggy detail). In Colorado, if you had the proper permits and paperwork you could. But not in Denver.
So, when it comes to shitting on the 2nd Amendment, Denver is its own entity and can ignore Colorado law. But, when it comes to legalizing pot, Denver is fully subject to Colorado law, voters' wishes be damned.
That's neat.
