So, I'm listening to Keith and Gail on the radio on the way home from the chiropractor, and they're talking about Beauprez's plan to use Colorado's aid money to Mexico as leverage to make them extradite an illegal immigrant, who killed a Denver cop, and shot another. A dude calls in, somebody with an accent, and he feels that we shouldn't tell Mexico how to run its country, what its laws should be, etc. This highlights a critical issue in how America operates in the world today. Everything we do to help the world is taken for granted, both by the beneficiaries, and by our own people. The caller to Keith and Gail doesn't stop to consider that we're GIVING Mexico free money, to the tune of about $65 million a year. That's not a gift, or a nice gesture, it's just “how it is.” We can't just stop giving them that money when they don't respect treaties they signed with us, can we? Right?
How crazy is that? How has it gotten to the point that $65 million a year in free money to Mexico is expected, and buys us nothing? I can understand how Mexico might feel that way, since they're the ones getting free money, but how do we, the people footing the bill, not expect to get $65 million worth of value from our money? I'll tell you why: it's because Americans are greedy, horrible people, who give money to Mexico so it can continue to ignore our immigration laws, and fail to comply with treaties it signed. We're greedy an horrible. We believe it, the world believes it, and it's utterly fucking false. It's time for us to start doing some accounting, and determine what our aid buys us. If people aren't even willing to thank us for it, then they should use the last of their aid to go buy some dildos, cause they need to go fuck themselves.
Just to be clear, illegal immigrant Raul Gomez-Garcia wanted to get into a social event being secured by two off duty Denver cops. They didn't allow him in, and he felt that the best course of action was to go get a gun and open fire on them. He killed one, injured the other. This is about as flagrant as it gets when it comes to homicide. There's no justification for it, he killed a cop for doing his job. That gets you the death penalty, and rightly so.
But Mexico won't extradite people facing the death penalty, or even life without parole. Even though they signed an extradition treaty with us. That, in and of itself, is so comically ludicrous I can't even fathom it. What sort of childish idiocy is it that Mexico is gonna get preachy with us about “cruel and unusual punishment?” Mexico is essentially a kleptocracy, its police forces are thoroughly corrupt, its citizens routinely practice vigilante justice, and they want to pretend like their legal code is more progressive and thoughtful than ours.
But they want to play grown up with us. This, despite the fact that their attitude is that of a spoiled child. When I was a kid, my folks gave me money for shit all the time. I didn't think it was nice of them, I didn't think it was a favor, I thought it was expected and deserved. And that's fine. I was a child, their child, and at the end of the day, they are in charge of me. If Mexico wants to take our money, and act like that's their entitlement, that's fine too. It means you're our child, and when we raise our voice, you do what we say. You will lock down your borders. You will extradite the people we say. You will stop coming over our borders illegally, draining money out of our healthcare system, and then calling us racist for objecting. No? Then you don't need any aid money. Maybe if you can at least learn to say “thank you” maybe we can talk.
I'm sick of Mexico's bullshit. I'm sick of how Bush tries to win Latino votes by pretending they're not bullshit. Fuck Latino votes. Let them call us racists. They're wrong, and they can shut the fuck up. Lock down the border. Nobody crosses illegally. If they do, they must be terrorists. A couple helicopter gunships blow a couple people off the bank of the river, and suddenly the laws will become REAL clear. It's good training for our pilots, and that $65 million we're saving can buy a lot of flying hours and 20mm ammo. Hold a trial, in absentia, for Gomez-Garcia. Find him guilty, sentence him to death, and send a SEAL team down to Mexico City to carry out the execution. If the world wants to take our aid money with one hand, and give us the finger with the other, then they need to be treated with the same level of respect. We're bad guys? Can't say enough about how cruel and unilateral we are? Fine. You wrote the script, assholes.
