It goes without saying that this guy shooting all these people is fairly fucking insane. All I can really pick out to comment on is this passage: “Zeigle said the suspect was “chasing after them and killing them,” with a SKS 7.62 mm semiautomatic rifle, a common hunting weapon.” An SKS is a common hunting weapon? Really? Here's info on the gun. Now, the SKS isn't a particularly horrifying weapon, according to Bill Clinton's standards. It's got a 10 round internal magazine, which is totally cool and safe, it's also got a rifle style stock, which, again, is totally safe. But, it is a military rifle, it's capable of fairly rapid fire, and it's really not a great hunting weapon. The 7.62x39mm ammo it uses isn't suitable for deer hunting, the rifle isn't particularly accurate, not well suited to mounting a scope. And yet, it is capable of killing 5 people and wounding 3, despite having the Bill Clinton stamp of safety.
I don't really know if people actually do hunt with an SKS, but I really doubt it. Everywhere I've ever been, they had various rules about the size of the magazine you could hunt with, among other things, to discourage people from just unloading on a deer. An SKS only has 10 rounds ready to go, but you can get those 10 rounds out pretty fast.
All in all, fucking insane. Chai Vang, you're a fucking lunatic.
Update: While getting lunch, I was listening to the radio, and they had a soundbite from some miserable fuck who was saying that the assault weapons ban “might” have kept this SKS out of Vang's hands, but of course, it's too late for that now. I can't even fathom how people can be so ill informed and deceptive about this shit. Yet again, I have to wonder how cut and dried other legislative issues are, but I'm just not as informed about them. Like, is there's just a simple-as-fuck solution to Social Security? Cause it's pretty fucking simple that the SKS is not AT ALL covered by the AWB. At ALL.
