The guy is a traitor. It's really not a question. He gave “aid and comfort to the enemy.” That's how we define a traitor. The question isn't whether or not John Kerry is a traitor. The question is if you're willing to have a traitor as your president. Personally, I'm not surprised that the liberals view this as a really awesome arrangement. The fact that this story isn't being covered in any mainstream media outlets is really rather amazing. CBS used forged documents to pursue Bush on whether or not he acted immorally. Nobody is willing to use real documents to pursue Kerry on whether or not he acted illegally. The level of media bias here borders on conspiracy. It's unreal.

Terms of Peace Treaty

The Americans agree to immediate and total withdrawal from Vietnam, and publicly to set the date by which all U.S. military forces will be removed.

The Vietnamese pledge that as soon as the U. S. government publicly sets a date for total withdrawal: they will enter discussions to secure the release of all American prisoners, including pilots captured while bombing North Vietnam.

There will be an immediate cease-fire between U. S. forces and those led by the Provisional Revolutionary Government of South Vietnam.

They will enter discussions on the procedures to guarantee the safety of all withdrawing troops.

The Americans pledge to end the imposition of Thieu-Ky-Khiem on the people of South Vietnam in order to insure their right to self-determination and so that all political prisoners can be released.

The Vietnamese pledge to form a provisional coalition government to organize democratic elections. All parties agree to respect the results of elections in which all South Vietnamese can participate freely without the presence of any foreign troops.

The South Vietnamese pledge to enter discussion of procedures to guarantee the safety and political freedom of those South Vietnamese who have collaborated with the U. S. or with U. S. -supported regimes.

The Americans and Vietnamese agree to respect the independence, peace and neutrality of Laos and Cambodia in accord with the 1954 and 1962 Geneva Conventions and not to interfere in the internal affairs of these two countries.

Upon these points of agreement, we pledge to end the war and resolve all other questions in the spirit of self-determination and mutual respect for the independence and political freedom of the people of Vietnam and the United States.

This is the "treasonous" treaty the "treasonous" Kerry wanted the US and Vietnam to sign. If his going to France (perish the thought) and actually talking to real Vietnames about this is treason, so be it. It's odd he wasn't prosecuted for it at the time, when he freely admitted what he was doing.

How do you know he wasn't prosecuted for it at the time? He won't release his military records, and in fact required the input of uber-dove Jimmy Carter to get his discharge papers. He was unable to get his medals re-issued until he became a senator. Whether it's "traitorous" or not, his actions in meeting with the North Vietnamese in Paris were ILLEGAL.

Meeting with North Vietnam gave AID and COMFORT to the enemy. I don't care if the terms of this particular peace accord look justifiable. It's not Kerry's job, it's not his place, and it's providing aid to the North Vietnamese. If the US government wished to talk to North Vietnam, they knew how to do so.

You don't seem to understand what a traitor is. When Russian MiG pilots defected to the US, were they not traitors? It doesn't matter if you agree with what somebody is doing or not... If they give aid and comfort to the enemies of their country, they're traitors. That's what the word means, and that's what John Kerry did.

I was alive and fully aware at the time, that's how I know he wasn't prosecuted.

He was no longer in the Navy when he started his peace activism, so his miltary record would be irrelevant.

If his actions were ILLEGAL, I again ask why he was not prosecuted.

I understand what a traitor is. So does our legal system. So again I ask why he was not prosecuted. Could it be that people of reason realized at that time that there are shades of gray in this world?

Could it be that the only people who feel he was a traitor are seriously overcommitted conservatives who can no longer think straight?

A military tribunal or court martial is not necessarily open to public scrutiny, so there's no reason you would hear about it. That's espeically true when there's powerful players who are trying to groom and advance Kerry for their own political gains. It's even more true when a guy like Carter comes into office, with halloween bags full of candy for all the deserters and draft dodgers out there.

There's a few things to note here...

First off, Kerry's own staff put his discharge papers on his site, and the date is listed as Feb. 16, 1978. That doesn't make a ton of sense, does it? Why would he be discharged in 1978, when his commitment to the Navy ended in 1972? Some people theorize that this is because he was initially given an "undesirable discharge" as a result of his illegal activities in Paris. It certainly looks to me like he needed some help from Carter before he was going to turn Vietnam into the political heyday he wanted it to be.

He WAS in the Navy when he started his activism, he just wasn't doing much, thanks to his creative use of the Purple Heart. The activities were illegal, because he undertook them while still a member of the Navy. His commitment ended in 1972, and he was in Paris in 1970, then back in Washington in 1971, all the while pushing for the Communist's desires, including the payment of reparations. Don't forget, he managed to get sent home after only 4 months of duty, with plenty of political capital to swing around. He's probably spent more than 4 months congratulating himself for his service at this point.

But, regardless, I'm not really arguing that there aren't shades of gray. What I'm arguing, is that this guy comitted acts that were traitorous, and used popular opinion and partisan political climates to skate through on it. To even profit from it. What I'd like to understand, is how Bush gets dragged over the coals repeatedly by mainstream news outlets, and nobody is even slightly interested in getting Kerry to explain why he won't release his records, why he thought it made the best sense to undermine our war effort in Vietnam, and why there's such oddity with his record. What I'd REALLY like to understand is why this guy, of all people, is being proffered up as a soldier hero... If there's even a reasonable question that somebody is a traitor, why peddle them as a war hero? How much madness is that, and how unbelieveable is it that the mainstream media has refused to question it, while they mercilessly hound Bush for his service history?
