My garage door is not working anymore.  The motor is fine, it opens and closes ok, but when it gets down to a closed position, it suddenly convinces itself that it's hitting something, and backs up to open.  So, it doesn't stay closed.  I think it must have been doing that intermittently for a while, because I'd return home and say “damn, I'm sure I shut that garage door when I left.”  Now it just won't stay closed.  I read the manual, and it says I have to call the garage door installers to reset the tension.

I called them, and they're coming on Thursday between 9am and 1pm.  Awesome.  How the hell do people live in this world?  I happen to have a slack assed job that consists of listening to Rush Limbaugh, blogging, yelling at Hussain, and periodically dicking with Authorware.  If I don't show up until 1pm, nobody gives a crap.  So, I can sit around all day, waiting for a garage door guy to come fix a one month old garage door.  But what about people who actually have to work for a living?  How do they manage to be home to let the sprinkler idiots in, the garage door morons, and the drywall goofs?  It's literally 2 out of 3 days that I have to stay home, or leave early, or whatever, to let somebody into my house.

The real question of my garage door is this:  When I paid the installer kid in cash, $800 for the two openers and labor, he was blown away by that.  He gave me his name and number and said “if there's any problems, call me, don't call the company.”  I'm not sure what that means, or what to do with that.  On one hand, I could call him, give him $20 or something, and have my doors fixed before fucking thursday.  On the other hand, he set them up in the first place, and they stopped working in a month.  So, it's a crapshoot.  I think I'll just park in the driveway for three days.  That way, I get free (and it better be fucking free) repairs, and I start to justify the merit of spending $800 on getting the iDrive openers installed, rather than $400 on installing the conventional ones myself.
